2017 DANCING FOR FUTURE STARS RAISED OVER $439,000!!!

In its 8th year, Dancing for Future Stars proved to be another fabulous night of entertainment, food, and FUNdraising!  It was the most successful year yet...raising over $439,000!  This brings the total funds raised in this event's short history to over $2 million!!! All proceeds benefit Boys & Girls Club youth in Gaston County through vital afterschool and summer programming.  A special thanks to our 2017 Celebrity Dancers: Dr. Cathy Caulfield, Alan Fulghum, John Griffith, Dr. Stephanie Hannon, Wendy Hostetler, Ralph Mueller, Kyle Robinson, and Derek Wilson!

The Club Stick Squad welcomed folks as they entered the Country Club and the event kicked off with a special performance from the Boys & Girls Club dancers (pictured left), followed by Alumni Dancers: Bob Clay, Sheriff Alan Cloninger, Gary & Kim Johnson, Madeline Keeter, Alex Mullineaux.

Chad Melvin, Chief Executive Officer, welcomed the attendees and thanked Board Members, Sponsors, Professional and Celebrity Dancers, Judges, and ticket holders. Board President Brad Collins also spoke about the impact this event has had on the Boys & Girls Club and how it has helped the organization to grow from serving 439 youth per year to over 1,600 annually!

Club Alumna Brittany Jenkins spoke about how the Boys & Girls Club changed her life.  She was raised by a single mother without very many opportunities, but the Club changed all that.

"My wealth of fortunate experiences didn’t just start and stop within the 4 walls of the Boys & Girls Club facility. I was 1 of 3 who was afforded an opportunity that I’ll share for years of being an exchange student to Gotha, Germany. In true Boys & Girls Club fashion, I was also able to take German speaking class, have my passport and plane ticket provided for as well as other expenses. I sincerely didn’t want to leave, even with the time-zone difference. Talk about living out loud."

To Brittany the Boys & Girls Club was more than just a daycare. She saw it as a safe haven where kids are free from the stresses of school and home, genuine friendships are formed, and confidence is built.lace where the staff could read disappointment or insecurities on my face and come to the rescue. To her the staff weren’t just mentors, but friends who cared about her well-being and success in life.  Brittany is now a mother, a successful stockbroker, and a novelist releasing her first book this spring.

This year's judges were Sheriff Alan Cloninger, wardrobe consultant Sherrod Georgius, WBTV news anchor Maureen O'Boyle, and professional dancer Jonathan Roberts of Dancing with the Stars fame.  Emcee Jim Cookson once again kept everyone laughing throughout the night.

Each of the 8 Celebrity Dancers performed two dances:one traditional and one freestyle.  John Griffith & Anik Mancuso performed a hot Paso Doble as a matador and bull, followed by a fun swing/foxtrot medley.  Dr. Kathryn Caulfield & Clement Joly also danced an exotic foxtrot and an exciting paso doble that included cartwheels. Alan Fulghum & Tatiana Kazakova clowned it up with a funny samba, followed by a "Grease" medley as a T-Bird and Pink Lady.  Dr. Stephanie Hannon & Stefano Placidi performed a very romantic rumba and an entertaining swing throwback to "Do You Love Me?”  Derek Wilson & Anik Mancuso danced a salsa to Pitbull and a fiery paso/tango.  Wendy Hostetler & Clement Joly cha cha’d and then waltzed while showing a video of Wendy's recent fun-filled visit to the Club to play with some of the kids.  Ralph Mueller & Tatiana Kazakova looked serious during their Viennese waltz, and then had fun doing the polka in lederhosen with beer steins.  Kyle Robinson & Ranko Bogosavac did a rumba with plenty of impressive lifts, followed by a disco.
